Senior Manager, Marketing – Showmax Nigeria at the Multichoice Group

Job Title: Senior Manager, Marketing – Showmax Nigeria

Purpose of the Position

  • To develop a fully integrated and localised Brand, content, PR, and digital marketing Strategy (within the broader corporate strategy) that will resonate with the Nigerian Market
  • To establish and grow a healthy brand position within the market
  • Drive marketing briefs, plans, omnichannel strategy/mix, and execution of all marketing campaigns aligned to our Content calendar to drive short term sales growth, while simultaneously driving Brand Execution to improve long term position.

Key Performance Objectives
Strategy – Developing & Executing Strategic Plans:

  • Develop and execute locally relevant Brand Strategy (in line with the overall Corporate Brand strategy) as well as Overall Marketing Strategy
  • Develop content, PR, and digital marketing strategy (both short term and long term)
  • Conduct research analysis and interpretation to inform and continuously improve marketing strategies (including optimising reach, recall, engagement and other marketing metrics to maximise ROI)
  • Work closely with Senior Manager Partnerships to ensure partnership marketing reflects and magnifies the above omnichannel marketing strategy
  • Formulates, develop and implement creative, advertising, media and promotional campaigns for channels
  • Including a relevant digital marketing strategy (organic and paid)
  • Develop and execute a locally relevant trade marketing strategy, in partnership with the Channels Manager (e.g. ensuring direct sales force reinforce Showmax’s Brand strategy)
  • Develop and execute a locally relevant Content marketing strategy for tentpole content pieces
  • Translate Organizational sales targets and strategy into meaningful operational targets and strategic focus areas, and design marketing campaigns to achieve these goals
  • Obtain customer insight to identify and evaluate strategic and innovative revenue generating sales initiatives
  • Identify key creative opportunities & test for growth through acquisition focused campaigns focused on barriers and triggers to entry.
  • Ensure marketing campaigns are also designed with the customer journey in mind, to maximise sales conversions, minimise leakage in the acquisition funnel and minimise CAC
  • Work closely with Multichoice Nigeria to leverage synergies in Sales and Marketing where possible.

Brand Delivery:

  • Co-ordination & management of brand strategy, brand asset management, brand building, sharing & consistency.
  • Multi-channel management, online & offline.
  • Creating brand value & managing perceptions.

PR Strategy and Relationship Management:

  • Ensure a comprehensive PR strategy, aimed at developing customer awareness, content discovery and building engaged communities, in conjunction with the PR manager and corporate communications teams
  • Maintain healthy and strong relationships with PR and news agencies, both to optimise opportunities for PR coverage, as well as stay ahead of potential negative press releases and intervene early to prevent reputational damage.

Digital and Social Marketing:

  • Work with relevant teams on journey, funnel mapping and conversion testing, tracking and optimisation to drive growth.
  • Identify key creative opportunities & test for growth through acquisition focused campaigns focused on barriers and triggers to entry.
  • Work with corporate digital performance marketing teams to drive conversion and cost efficiencies, optimising all digital metrics (CPM, CPC, CPA, etc)
  • Develop innovative and viral campaigns to achieve broad, customer driven reach

Marketing Budget Management:

  • Ensure accurate tracking and regular reporting of marketing budget
  • Take a strategic approach to budgeting, developing an annual budget forecast built around planned .- -campaigns (with adequate buffers)
  • Rigorously monitor Marketing performance against approved budgets and put measures in place to address variances. Manage monthly burn rate and continuously identify areas for improved efficiency.

Marketing Operation Delivery:

  • Execute on the Brand Strategy and set up metrics to measure success of rollout
  • Develop and manage creative marketing initiatives in support of organisation’s range of activities, aligned to content calendar – across traditional channels and digital channels including PR, Social (organic) and ideally performance marketing
  • Introduce key marketing policies, processes and tools to ensure an efficient and structured Marketing department
  • Management of media strategy and working with media agencies
  • Ensure all campaigns are thoroughly documented (comms plan, assets, GTM execution) and regularly communicate to internal stakeholders
  • Regularly present on strategy and campaign performance to Exco
  • Anticipate reputational threats and device response strategies and manage reputational issues swiftly and efficiently
  • Align the organisation internally around marketing, brand, and customer objectives
  • Guide and direct the develop and execution of through-the-line marketing communications across all touchpoints.

Stakeholder Relations (Local Board members/Shareholders/ Multichoice Nigeria Team):

  • Ensure strong relationships with local Multichoice Nigeria team, corporate Connected Video teams and corporate Multichooice Teams (MAH, CII, anti-piracy, etc) leveraging synergies between the two companies where possible to drive cost and revenue efficiencies
  • Work with in-house studio teams where relevant to deliver marketing campaigns; manage and coordinate external agencies to deliver strategy, conceptualisation, development & production of marketing campaigns across consumer segments and touchpoints to achieve objectives.
  • Ensure effective documentation and communication to senior stakeholders of an annual brand and content marketing campaign calendar linked to growth objectives
  • Ensure strong relationships with external marketing agencies.

People Management:

  • Build a high-performance team (including sales and marketing agency talent)
  • Provide leadership in the aspect of Performance direction, goal clarification, communication, engagement, ethics, commitment & energy
  • Talent management, capacity, competence & skills – development
  • Responsible for team strength & performance level (attraction, selection, retention & development team)
  • Ensure subordinate managers have clear, current and measurable goals; hold direct reports accountable for their own results and obstacles and deal with underperformance
  • Ensure alignment with Team strength, performance and energy matched strategic requirements – under performers identified, improved or removed.

Key Internal Customers:

  • Connected Video Corporate team (incl Marketing, Digital, Product and Strategy), Multichoice CNigeria Functional Teams, CII Team (Analytics), Content, Commissioning and Internal Studio; Regulatory, Finace, HR, Legal, anti-piracy, PR and Corp Comms.

Key External Customer:

  • Media Agencies; Production Houses; Creative Agency; 3rd party Sales Agencies (direct, informal, formal); External partners (MNOs, ISPs, Banks, etc); Payment vendors, Research houses.

Qualifications Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

Qualification Preferred:

  • MBA advantageous.


  • A minimum of 10 years of senior management experience in Marketing, branding, publicity experienc
  • A history of launching new brands (or designing and executing major rebranding campaigns)
  • Budget management experience
  • Strong experience developing and executing strategies and marketing campaigns across channels: ATL, BTL, Digital, Performance Marketing, PR, Activations
  • digital marketing background to include organic and paid (social, google, etc)
  • Detailed commercial and financial acumen, balanced with creative flair
  • People management experience is essential
  • Ideally experience in the Pay TV or OTT industry (or experience in selling and marketing digital B2C services).
